ÎLES PERCÉES A
At the dawn of a new colonization of New France, a picturesque area located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, downstream from Montreal, was divided into seigniories. In that location the river was dotted with islands set so close together that they appeared to be pierced by several streams. |
| |
ÎLES PERCÉES B ( suite )
This is how this area got the name of Seigneurie des Îles Percées, it covered a region that went from Longueuil to Verchères through Saint-Bruno. |
| |
ÎLES PERCÉES C ( suite )
The first Sieur who settled on these islands was Pierre Boucher, to whom Intendant Talon bestowed this seigniory for services rendered at the border when he was a soldier. This is what led to the establishment of the first village along the river, later to be known as Boucherville.

PIERRE-BOUCHER
Sieur de Grosbois (1622-1717) alternately donned the garb of soldier, interpreter, linguist, writer, judge, governor (of Trois-Rivières), founder, pioneer, defender and the first urban developer of one of the oldest towns in Quebec. His deeds led him to be regarded as the most highly respected and greatest Canadian of his time. |
| |
ÎLE GROSBOIS
This was the name of the Boucherville seigneury around the year 1667. Île Grosbois was a well-known vacationing village and one of the “îles percées” (pierced islands), now part of the Boucherville Islands. Around 1910, the son of the developer and builder of the Suez Canal, Viscount Jacques de Lesseps, built and repaired aircraft on the island. |
| |
LA BROQUERIE
Formerly the name of the Jesuits’ summer place, it is now the name of a historically-oriented park facing the St. Lawrence River. |
